Plainfield - Online retailer Amazon.com says it plans to open a distribution center in Plainfield that will eventually create more than 300 jobs.

Amazon.com's regional director of distribution, Connie Wendzicki, says the warehouse will have at least 260 jobs this year and up to 350 by 2011.

The Plainfield Town Council on Monday approved property tax abatement for the project, which will be in a new 950,000 square foot building that's already been built. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. also offered incentives including training grants.

The site west of Indianapolis will be the third warehouse Amazon has opened in Indiana within a year. Amazon also has distribution centers in Munster in northern Indiana and in Boone County north of Indianapolis.
