The thrill for buffs of action movies never stops as they always want more, and the Army of the Dead unlocks a new level of excitement and curiosity for such fans.
The Army of the Dead is a heist movie aired on Netflix, an American subscription streaming service and production company. Zack Snyder, an American screenwriter and film producer, wrote the movie’s story and directed it. It was released on Netflix in May 2021.

This movie is a prequel to the Army of Thieves, a heist comedy movie produced and directed by Matthias Schweighöfer, a German film producer and director, based on a story written by Snyder and Shay Hatten. Interestingly, the Army of the Dead was released before the Army of the Thieves, but the latter is designated as the prequel to the former.
The Army of the Thieves centres around Ludwig Dieter, the comedic relief in the film. Dieter, a bank teller of German origin, is also a computer guru who produces videos on YouTube but hardly gets the needed attention he craves. This, however, changes during a zombie attack as he gets an invite to participate in an underground safecracking competition. He wins the contest, and Gwendoline, the cryptic lady who had left a comment on his YouTube page, introduces herself.
Gwendoline then enlists Dieter into a heist crew comprising herself; expert hacker, Korina; getaway driver, Rolph; and gunman, Brad Cage, to break into three banks that houses three safes created by locksmith Hans Wagner. A dash of romance between Dieter and Gwendoline emerges as the former begins his escapades of opening the three safes alongside the team. The German successfully cracked all the safes, but several rifts among the team members force their mission to be derailed at certain times.
After successfully cracking the third safe, Gwendoline and Dieter confess their mutual feelings for one another while trying to escape via a boat. They are, however, caught by Interpol. Gwendoline willingly offers herself to be arrested and tells her love interest to flee, and vows to be reunited with him whenever she is released. Following his relocation to the US, two persons present Dieter with the chance to crack Wagner’s “missing” safe, which he accepts.

Plot of Army of the dead
According to Netflix, the Army of the Dead focuses on a group of mercenaries who take the ultimate gamble after a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas by venturing into the quarantine zone for the greatest heist ever.
The movie starts with a convoy of soldiers transporting a highly classified package owned by the United States military from Area 51. However, the convoy collides with a car, which carried a newlywedded couple. The accident enables the content of the package, a metahuman zombie, to escape and unleash itself by infecting and killing the soldiers and then storming into Las Vegas, affecting the majority of the city’s population.
The government then called upon a group of mercenaries to help in a military intervention, but the scope of the work overwhelms them, and the government subsequently quarantines and seals off the city. However, the mercenaries were not paid by the government after the work, leading to grumbles.
But six years later, the head of the mercenary gets an offer from billionaire Bly Tanaka, the owner of the Las Vegas Casino; and his associate, Martin, to retrieve $200 million trapped in his casino’s vault in the quarantined city. Tanaka wants the money extricated before the military uses nuclear weapons to wipe out the city to save it from zombies. With his daughter, Kate, confined at a quarantine zone camp and him unable to see her, Scott Ward, the mercenary head, reluctantly agrees to the billionaire’s request. Ward assembles five of his old teammates: Maria Cruz and Vanderohe. They are joined by Marianne Peters, Ludwig Dieter and Mikey Guzman, who tags along with his associate. Also joining the team is Lily, who also recruits Burt Cummings, and Kate, who tags along against her father’s wishes.
Learning that the government’s decision to deploy nuclear strikes is imminent, Ward and his gang head into Las Vegas to grab the money that can change their lives. But when they enter the infested city, the gang encounters new challenges incessantly and has to balance between their quest and chance of survival.
A large number of the mercenaries are unable to survive the bites of the zombies, while the survivors went away with the money and did not remit it to the owner.

Army of the Dead Sequel
The movie’s co-producer and director, Snyder, had in May 2021 hinted that a sequel for the Army of the Dead could be developed as soon as possible. Producer Deborah Snyder further insinuated that a sequel was in the works when she stated that it could be set in New Mexico.
Snyder made confirmation of the sequel in July 2021. The title of the sequel: Planet of the Dead, was revealed in October 2021. However, the timeline of the movie’s release is still yet-to-be-announced.
