Greenwood, December 30, 2003 - Monday's Sanjo Steel fire was set. According to Greenwood Fire Chief Tom Kite, investigators are asking anyone with information on this fire, which caused $750,000 damage, to contact the following numbers:
Greenwood Fire Department 882-2599
Greenwood Police Department 882-9191
Fifty-two firefighters from Greenwood and surrounding townships helped put out the blaze. Fire investigators say the blaze started in an office complex around 6:30 a.m. Fortunately, no one was inside the building yet, and no employees were hurt.
One firefighter did suffer a sprained ankle.
Sanjo's owners tell Eyewitness News they plan to rebuild on the same site. "It looks like we're getting some drawings coming out," said Sanjo President Jeff Cave, "which is a very key thing for us. If our drawings aren't damaged, that's a big plus."
"The whole office is gone," said Sanjo's Brad Pugh. "The shop has been saved. We'll be open for business. We'll put some job trailers out in the parking lot, run some telephone lines and we'll be up and running."
