Eye colour varies depending on the lighting conditions, especially for lighter-coloured eyes. One of the eye colour variations in human beings is the blue eyes. It is estimated that eight to ten percent of the global population have blue eyes. But how hard is it to see black people with blue eyes?
Individuals have blue eyes due to low concentrations of melanin in the stroma of the iris. More blue light gets back out, and the eyes appear to be blue. Blue eyes are common in northern and eastern Europe. They are also found in people from southern Europe, Central Asia, South Asia, North Africa and West Asia.
As mentioned earlier, the people in the areas are generally referred to as Caucasians, meaning white-skinned and/or light-skinned persons. It is presumed that black people do not have blue eyes. However, some black persons have blue eyes, which is considered rare.
Blue eyes’ presence in blacks has been ascribed to the Waardenburg syndrome, a rare genetic condition marked by at least some degree of congenital hearing loss and pigmentation deficiencies. A genetic mutation is also adduced as a reason for blue eyes in black persons.
