Beyoncé almost didn't let Blue Ivy perform during the Renaissance world tour.
On November 25, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé premiered in Los Angeles, revealing new details about how the tour came together—including her 11-year-old daughter's multiple cameos during “My Power” and “Black Parade.” It turns out, Beyoncé was wary of the idea, despite previously performing with Blue in Dubai back in January. “She told me she was ready to perform, and I told her no,” Beyoncé says in the film, according to The New York Times. In fact, once Beyoncé changed her mind, Blue Ivy was supposed to join her mom on the stage for only a single night in Paris.
Fans may remember that Blue Ivy had only “a little over a week” to prepare for the big moment, per Tina Lawson, who shared footage of her granddaughter's first Renaissance show in May. “Last night I saw my beautiful grandbaby (11) dance in front of almost 70 thousand people,” Lawson wrote on Instagram at the time. “She killed it and was as cool as a cucumber! Blue Ivy Carter ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ No Fear❤️❤️.”

Apparently, some viewers weren't completely impressed by Blue Ivy's performance, despite the fact that she was literally a child learning choreography alongside professional dancers. According to the NYT, Beyoncé was “dismayed” to discover that Blue Ivy read social media comments that “criticized her lackluster moves” but was “thrilled” when her daughter decided to “put in the work” instead of calling it quits. Thus Blue Ivy continued to dance with her mom during various stops on the tour.
