Westchase, Florida - Hillsborough County deputies say an eight year old girl drowned Thursday night in a swimming accident at the Westchase Swim and Tennis Center at 10405 Countryway Boulevard. Officers say eight year old Kiana Appleby was in the pool, with a swim team called the dolphins, when bad weather blew in around 5:30 p.m. Thirty youngsters were ordered out of the pool and into a shelter area. One of the children told a lifeguard that her friend, Kiana was missing. Deputies say the staff did a quick head count of the children, discovered one was missing, and started searching for the child. Officials say they found Kiana in the deep end of the pool. A life guard pulled her out of the water and began CPR. Kiana was rushed to Town N’ Country Hospital where she died.
