Cristiano Ronaldo becomes world’s highest-paid athlete – Forbes

Famous footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo has been announced by Forbes to be the world’s highest-paid athlete following his switch from Manchester United to Saudi Arabian club, Al-Nassr.

His move was certainly impactful, as it almost doubled his yearly earnings. According to Forbes, other players, Paris St Germain duo Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe come as second and third on the list of highest-paid players.

Cristiano Ronaldo is to remain with the Saudi club till 2025 after leaving Manchester United last year. The player’s contract is noted to be worth more than 200 million euros ($219.98m). According to Forbes, he’d previously earned $136m, with his annual playing salary now increasing by an estimated $75m.

The next on the list is PSG forward Messi after earning more than $130m. The third on the list is Messi’s club captain and teammate Mbappe who is the youngest player on the list – earning more than $120m. LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers player who earned over $119.5m is fourth on the list according to Forbes. Canelo Alvarez who is a Mexican boxer is fifth on the list with an estimate of $110m, rounding up the top five highest-paid players in the world.
