Darla Renee Jackson, 25, 'kills Navy sailor Zachary Buob in road rage incident'

A San Diego woman is being held on first-degree murder charges after hitting and killing a motorcyclist Thursday in a bout of road rage, police said.

Darla Renee Jackson, 25, struck 39-year-old Navy chief petty officer Zachary Buob's motorcycle from behind, then ran him over with her car, according to authorities.

The two were driving in rush hour traffic on the highway when Buob, on his red Ducati, and Jackson, behind the wheel of a Nissan Altima, got into some type of disagreement, according to KNSD.

As they drove through National City onto State Route 54, Jackson's car hit Buob's motorcycle and then rolled over Buob.

Buob was taken to a hospital where he died about an hour later.

Jackson is currently being held in the Las Colinas women's detention facility without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.

Buob was assigned to Naval Special Warfare Command, part of Naval Base Coronado, and had been with the US Navy for over 20 years, Nicole Cramer, a friend of Buob's, told 10 News.

'It's just a huge loss to the country, to his family, to his friends,' said Kathy, Cramer's mother.

Jackson's mother spoke to Fox 5 and denied allegations of road rage, claiming Buob had threaded in between traffic and was driving erratically.

Argument: Buob and Jackson had gotten into some type of disagreement and Jackson followed Buob before hitting his motorcycle and running him over

'The motorcycle was trying to cut through some cars and for whatever reason he kicked the side of my daughter’s car,' Margie Jackson said.

Her mother claimed Jackson had been following Buob to get his insurance information. Investigators are working to find witnesses who saw the scene unfold in its entirety.

California Highway Patrol Officer Jake Sanchez gave a warning to drivers not to engage or provoke outraged motorists, saying there is no way of knowing how the person will react.
