After the New England Patriots’ recent humiliating defeat at the hands of the New Orleans Saints, it’s only natural to begin pondering who might succeed Bill Belichick as their coach.
Bill Belichick, now in his 24th season leading the New England Patriots, continues to surprise Foxborough fans with unprecedented developments.
However, these new historical events are not what the supporters had hoped to witness.
Following their first loss by a margin of at least 35 points since 1993, Belichick and the Patriots returned to Gillette Stadium on Sunday and faced an equally struggling opponent in the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints managed to achieve a 34-point shutout in the early stages of NFL‘s Week 5 action.
While a scoreless game at Gillette had occurred relatively recently in October 2016, the Patriots’ current record of 1-4 is their worst since Belichick’s debut season in 2000, and it marks the first time the “New England” version of the team has lost consecutive games by a five-touchdown margin since “Boston” did so in 1970.
Patriots Fans Run Out Of Patience
The demand surged after the Patriots’ 34-0 loss to the Saints and the previous week’s 38-3 loss to the Cowboys.
NFL fans began calling for Belichick’s firing on Sunday, and the calls intensified on Monday.
ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith also suggests that Robert Kraft, the Patriots’ owner, should have a serious conversation with Belichick.
Smith proposes that Belichick should remain as a coach but relinquish his role as the franchise’s GM.
