With my current blue diamana I was spinning the ball way to high- up between 3700 and 4000. I tried the new Fukirkura TS 74 that's in the 917 as thought this would be a good starting point but felt absolutely dead in my hands- like a lead pipe.
After trying the other 3 I narrowed it down to 2 stiff shafts- Aldila Rogue max 65 and the black diamana 70.... I was probably splitting hairs with the 2 but I had a bit better dispersion and more penetrating flight with the black diamana so went for that. I was gaining and extra 24 yards carry with the black diamana and spin was down at between 2200 - 2600 depending on strike... even total mi***** we were discounting were spinning at 3300-3500 which was still far less than my current shaft.
From the pro was also a lesson really as worked a bit on my swing. Said swing path good, face control ok on occasions but needs work but my biggest downfall is strike- i'm still striking out the heel too much so is something I need to work on as it is due to slight casting motion- said it really is only fractional though.
So in response to Dave- I think you'd be crazy to buy online without the knowledge of what suits best- this is coming from serial club changer.
Find a good pro with a good LM and get testing it would probably open your eyes like it did mine.
The pro I went to obviously had a limited shaft selection but even at that I now know I have a more suited shaft... I do wish I had a golf principles type place right enough where I could try a zillion shafts but with some shafts almost the same price as a new driver maybe not lol.
