Europeans apparently love a Southern accent

Many Americans find foreign accents attractive, but do other countries find any of our accents attractive? Apparently so.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Many Americans find foreign accents attractive, but do other countries find any of our accents attractive? Apparently so.

Babbel, a popular language-learning app, polled workers at European hostels - who are likely to encounter foreign accents on a regular basis - to find out which American accents they found the most attractive. Which did they choose? You'll have to go down South to get it.

The Deep South came in first with 20 percent of the vote, followed by New Yorker and Bostonian. Sorry, Hoosiers, but Midwestern came in sixth out of seven options.

Only one country, Ireland, actually ranked the Deep South in first place. Some 57 percent of French respondents favored a New Yorker’s tone while Brits and Swedes preferred the Southern Californian accent. German, Spanish and Dutch staffers all chose Bostonians. The Deep South finished first overall because of consistently high rankings across all European countries.
