Fans divided as Floyd Mayweather sparks heated debate with comments about Naoya Inoue and calls for Gervonta Davis fight

Floyd Mayweather has caused a few arguments among boxing fans with his comments about Naoya Inoue.

The Japanese sensation is now widely regarded as the second greatest boxer on the planet, behind only Terence Crawford, following his victory over America's Stephen Fulton last month.

The Fulton victory made Inoue a far bigger name in America and even saw him linked to an unrealistic match-up against Gervonta Davis, who is three weight classes above him.

Mayweather has taken notice and told FightHype: "The kid from Japan, Inoue - even though he got the victory over Stephen Fulton, Stephen Fulton is not a heavy puncher, he's a good boxer.

"He went out there and he did what he's supposed to do.

"I want Stephen Fulton to hold his head high, I'm proud of him. Any true champion can take a loss and bounce back.

"But as far as Inoue - Nonito Donaire was giving him fits in the first fight.

"If I'm not mistaken, Donaire was somewhere close to 40 when he fought him the first time, and he was in his 20s, so he should've knocked him out in the first fight, fighting a guy at that age...

"What I need Inoue to do is to come fight in the USA, random blood and urine testing.

"I think he's a helluva fighter, I won't take nothing away from him.

"I like him because he takes a lot of stuff from my playbook. But it's okay, you're supposed to take from the greats.

"I would like to see him fight Gervonta Davis at a catchweight.”

These remarks have caused a series of debates among boxing supporters.

One fan commented: "Floyd instigating a great fight."

But a second fan replied: "Inoue has had one fight at 122lbs. How is that a great fight, just cause you saw Inoue fight live once against Fulton doesn’t mean he should move up 13lbs."

And another added: "NO Tank fight. He already moved up five divisions and is still three divisions under Tank currently. HELL NO. MAKE TANK FIGHT A REAL BODY. Shakur Stevenson or Devin Haney, enough with this nonsense."

One focused on a separate point Mayweather made as he said: "What playbook? Mayweather was on defence majority of his fights and then just threw half punches to get points lol."

But a different fan disagreed and responded: "You mean boxing and winning."

Another fan who agreed with Mayweather said: "He definitely needs to come to USA and do random blood and urine testing."

Though he was dismissed by a fan who replied: "He’s been drug tested multiple times. Stay salty insinuating he is a cheat based on what?"
