Authorities say a former Lafayette surgeon convicted of stalking his ex-wife is on the run after he removed his tracking device and fled his in-home detention.
Dr.
Gregory Konrathof Peru, Indiana is a wanted man. Authorities say the former surgeon
convicted of stalking his ex-wifeis on the run after he removed his tracking device and fled his in-home detention.
A judge released Konrath from jail, placing him on home detention about two weeks ago. Tuesday, Miami County Sheriff's deputies learned he ditched his GPS monitoring device.
"We received notification from community corrections that Konrath's home detention ankle bracelet sent signals that it had been cut off," said Captain Gary Glassburn, "We discovered the GPS device had been discarded in Lafayette, Indiana around 6pm Tuesday evening."
In July 2014, investigators say they uncovered and foiled the 49-year-old doctor's alleged plot to kill his wife with plans to make her death look like a suicide.
Sources tell Eyewitness News that Konrath would make repeated calls to police asking them to do a welfare check on his victim, claiming she was suicidal. The plan would then be to make her death appear as if she committed suicide.
When deputies executed a search warrant at his home in Peru on North Lincoln Street, they took photographs. They also searched inside the home for clues on where Konrath may be hiding out. As of Wednesday afternoon Konrath still had his WiFi service turned on at his home.
The doctor turned fugitive once worked at Duke Memorial in Peru. He also has work history in Lafayette, Indiana. Eyewitness News has learned that Konrath often traveled to Florida and Mexico where he may also be seeking help from family or friends to remain at large.
The Miami County prosecutor added to charges already on file against the wanted doctor to include escape and violation of probation. Konrath was already facing two counts of stalking along with attempted murder. Investigators won't say rather Konrath is armed or dangerous. But they are working with several agencies to get him back in custody.
Investigators believe Konrath may be driving his four-door silver 2013 Cheverlot Captiva SUV with an Indiana license plate WJE 795.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call 911.
