Elden Ring developer FromSoftware just launched patch Version 1.03 for the JRPG on March 17, 2022, adding several new quest line steps and endings for certain NPCs, including Gostoc.
Gostoc is the infamous Rune thief in Elden Ring‘s Stormveil Castle, the first major legacy dungeon most players will come across. This means many players already killed this NPC to avoid getting their runes stolen when dying. If you already killed Gostoc, you’re definitely not alone, several English and Japanese players mentioned on Twitter they’re in the same spot. Luckily, you’re not missing out much.
Elden Ring 1.03 adds new Gostoc quest line ending
Gostoc’s quest’s new ending is linked with Nepheli’s and Kenneth’s. You’ll first find Nepheli in Stormveil Castle, then in Roundtable Hold, and later in the Village of the Albinaurics. Lastly, she’ll be in Roundtable Hold again, and you’ll need to give her the Stormhawk King ashes found in the Church of Anticipation.
After you exhaust the dialogue lines of Gostoc, Nepheli and Kenneth to proceed their quest lines, and after you defeat Morgott in Leyndell which means this is very late in the game, teleport back to Godrick’s arena site of grace and rest there. After that, Nepheli, Kenneth and Gostoc will be at the castle’s throne room, ending the Nepheli quest line.
Speak to Nepheli and Gostoc to obtain Ancient Dragon Smithing Stones
According to reddit player Auritor, if you speak to Gostoc and Nepheli there, you can obtain an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone from each one of them. These are rare and valuable upgrade materials for armaments, however, you can find several other Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone in-game. So you’re not missing much if you already killed Gostoc. Worse case scenario, you could always get those two in New Game +.

Furthermore, players who already killed Gostoc reported that Nepheli and Kenneth will still spawn in the throne room, so you’re not missing much and will still get at least one Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone from Nepheli.
