Difficulty
First of all, there are three difficulty levels in this game: Easy, Medium and Hard. To make things as simple as possible, just stick to Easy. There are no difficulty-related achievements in this game and Hard mode is surprisingly difficult.
Game Modes
There are three different modes you can play in this game. Here's a quick breakdown of them.
Quick Play - This mode is simple. Just play the song with no fancy extras that the other modes bring into play.
Yearbook - You'll be playing this mode on every song in the game for an achievement. In Yearbook mode, your HUD becomes almost like a camera. There is a battery indicator in the upper left corner. You have to get a streak of 3 to fully charge the battery. If you miss a phrase and break your streak, you have to start charging again. At certain points of the song, your screen changes into a camera viewfinder. When this happens, you have to hit the A button on your controller to take a snapshot. There are 3 snapshots to collect in each on-disc song. However, if your battery isn't fully charged when the snapshot comes up, you'll be unable to hit the A button, so don't break your combo right before one comes up.
Shooting Star - This mode is a bit of fun for up to six players. Up to two people can be singing while up to four can be on controllers. As the singer(s) complete phrases, stars will start popping up. The player(s) on the controller(s) move a cursor around on screen and try to collect as many stars as possible. There are no achievements tied to this mode, so if you're just in it for the gamerscore, you'll never have to touch this mode.
The different game modes can be played either Solo, Co-op, Duet (only for songs with a duet part) and Versus.
Song Bonuses
During the songs, there will be a few bonuses that will pop up occasionally that you can take advantage of.
Make Some Noise - These will appear on the screen as a bar. As you make noise, the bar will fill up. Every time the bar fills up all the way, you add 1x on to your multiplier. You can keep making noise to fill up the bar until it disappears. This is one of the ways you can get your multiplier over 5x. On some songs, there will only be time to fill it up once when it pops up. On others, you can fill it up 3 or 4 times. It all depends on the song. If you know where one is coming up, you can start making noise in advance to maximize your meter filling. Here's a helpful tip: Just remember that Rachel is like Tinkerbell. She needs applause to live.
Gleek Out - This will appear in certain spots in certain songs and, just like Make Some Noise, you have to make noise to use it. However, there is no meter to fill. Instead, as you continue to make noise, you'll keep adding points on to your score. Simple as that.
Golden Phrases - Throughout the song, you will notice some phrases that appear in gold on the screen. These phrases will increase your multiplier past 5x when you hit them perfectly. This, along with Make Some Noise, is the only way to get your multiplier above 5x.
Speaker Trick
Like other games in the Karaoke Revolution series, the game can be easily tricked into playing itself. To use this trick, lower all track volumes to 0 in the options menu except for the lead vocals track. Then put your microphone in front of your TV/stereo speaker. However, it's not quite as effective in this game as it is in other games in the series. Glee, Vol. 3 is much less sensitive than other KR games. Not only that, but there's no way to separate the lead and background tracks in the game, so the background vocals will throw you off a bit, which makes some songs next to impossible to get 100% on with the speaker trick. So, while you may not be able to rely on it for the 100% achievement, you can at least use it to grind some of the Gleeks.
