When you start a new game and see the opening, you will find yourself in a pretty blank location.
WHITE SPACE
Welcome to WHITE SPACE. You have been living here for as long as you can remember. There are not many things to interact with, but go ahead and check out MEWO, your cat, the tissue box, the computer, the sketchbook, and the lightbulb. To check the lightbulb, stand underneath it and press . You don't need to check out the door until we pick up something that drops into WHITE SPACE. Look around (the area loops) to the northeast of the blanket for a SHINY KNIFE. You may run by holding
. Touching the red hands on the edges of WHITE SPACE will teleport you back to the center.
You can now open the menu to see submenus for equipping items, items you can carry, skills you can learn, and options. Check out these menus for yourself and get a good feel for them! Right now, OMORI is equipped automatically with the SHINY KNIFE, but he has no CHARMS. You can find these later on. You are not carrying any items in your POCKET, but you do start with two SKILLS. We will go over these later.
Most important at the start of the game are the OPTIONS. If you turn text skipping on, you can mash /
to speed up text dialogue. This is not recommended for your first run of the game. Turning the battle text too fast may make some things hard to read in battle since they pass by so quickly. Changing character movement to dash will act as though you are constantly holding down
to run. If you choose to turn this on, move with
instead of
. We will look at the third OPTIONS tab in a bit.
Now that you have the SHINY KNIFE go ahead and walk through the door by your blanket.
Lost At A Sleepover
In this room, you'll be introduced to your friends; AUBREY, KEL, and HERO are the other three party members for your adventure. After the trio argues about their card game, a lightbulb will appear over AUBREY's head. This icon appears when there is a side quest you can start. Talk to her and start her side quest, aptly named STUFFED TOY.
STUFFED TOYKEL hid AUBREY'S STUFFED TOY so she wouldn't find it. Rude! Go ahead and look for a blue watermelon in the corner of this room and open it to find her toy. Give it back to her to finish the side quest. |
Once that's all settled, talk to HERO. He says that two other members of the friend group want to have a picnic. Sounds like a nice time. Leave this room and collect your allowance from the snake on the stairs.
Let's Get Together Now!
There are four directions you can move in after leaving the stump. North, west, and east all lead to dead ends, but it's probably worth just checking them out for now. There is a pretty nice view from the dock to the north and you can build sandcastles up there as well. Anyways, go down to the playground and meet up with MARI and BASIL.
After a brief conversation, look at a photo in BASIL's photo album, and
read what the description for it is. Try to read the descriptions for all 11 pictures - this is the only time you'll be able to see these photos! To clarify now (some people get confused), HERO is KEL's older brother by four years, and MARI is OMORI's older sister by the same amount. Before you go and talk to the person with a new side quest, have some candy on MARI's picnic blanket and save your game.
There are six save slots you can use. Because you are using such a wonderful walkthrough, there is no need to make extra saves unless it is mentioned later on. I can't stop you, of course, but you can just save in the first slot until it's suggested you make a backup save in another slot later on. You can also check out the menu again to see what everyone else has equipped. Notably, KEL has a CHARM of his own - HECTOR, his pet rock. Since AUBREY, KEL, and HERO can all unequip their weapons, this is a good time to explain the HIT stat. If a friend has no weapon equipped, their HIT is reduced from 100 to 0. This means their attacks will always miss instead of always hitting.
There is a sign with a poster next to the entrance you came in from. If you take a look at it, it says that someone isn't allowed here. You can also talk to everyone else before you talk to the girl with a new side quest, BERLY. It's time to play hide-and-seek with everyone! Most of the people you need to find should be pretty easy to spot, but one in particular tends to give people trouble.
BERLY will do roll call, but someone is missing. Look for BASIL and try to help him down to the ground. This is going to be your first battle, so there are a few more things to learn now. First, after choosing to fight, you have four options to choose from. TOYS are items you can use in battle and SNACKS are restorative items. SKILLS perform various actions at the cost of JUICE, your blue meter under the red HEART bar. OMORI, AUBREY, and KEL can all affect their own or an enemy's emotions, while HERO has a skill that restores 75% of someone's HEART. You don't need to use anything for this battle; just go ahead and fight BOSS until he does a special move on your team. OMORI can lose all of his HEART and still survive with 1 left, but this can only occur once per battle. If OMORI ever loses all of his HEART, it's game over.
Resolve the situation and eat some nutritious candy next to MARI. We need to heal at every (01/28) PICNIC in the game, not that you won't want to restore your HEART and JUICE. If you talk to MARI twice, you can check your incomplete and complete side quests, and if you use the cooler at every new picnic you come across, a neat little cutscene will play out. These are definitely worth watching every time you come across a new picnic, even though this first one is uneventful until later.
Go south from the playground, then south again and check on BASIL's flowers. He will tell you about each kind of flower as you progress towards his place. You will also encounter three SPROUT MOLES, each one affected by a different emotion. The gang will explain emotions and give you items while further explaining how emotions and battles work, and you can look at these items in your inventory to refresh yourself on how things work. One of the more important items to us right now is the FOE FACTS! journal, which keeps track of which enemies you've come across and gives you a nice blurb about the enemy. (01/85) BOSS was our first entry in the journal and the (02/85) LOST SPROUT MOLE is the second. HERO should learn a skill soon at Lv02 called MASSAGE; this removes an emotion from a friend or foe.
Completing the FOE FACTS! journal, along with finding every picnic and other repeating landmarks, is restricted to Route B. If this is your first time playing, we will follow Route A. You may disregard locating every collectible marked in bold and italics until you re-read the walkthrough while on Route B, unless stated otherwise. All incremental achievements and BADGES like finding the PICNICS and others must be done in one run on Route B, so if you're playing for the second time, make sure you interact with these things again.
MARI has set up a (02/28) PICNIC between BASIL's garden and his house. Eat some fruits to restore your health, then save your game.
Carry on and interact with the rather large and ugly plant creature blocking the way to BASIL's house, (03/85) YE OLD SPROUT. This dude is pretty durable, just keep on attacking until HERO explains the energy meter that will appear at the bottom of the screen. When you have at least 3 ENERGY, you can perform a follow-up attack after you perform a normal attack between the group of friends. Notably, OMORI's follow-up moves do not interact with his friends, but everyone else's do. Keep on fighting until you are given 10 energy, then have OMORI use the RELEASE ENERGY! ultimate attack to finish off YE OLD SPROUT. OMORI should learn a new SKILL after reaching Lv03, STAB which always deals a critical hit and ignores defense when OMORI is sad.
With the biggest mole out of the way, enter the grotto and watch a cutscene play out before entering BASIL's shoe house. Help him put his pictures back in place. Outlines will show you where each picture goes, including the new one. BASIL, being the shy boy he is, will try to say something but will be cut off.
Sooner or later, you will find yourself in a familiar location. Of note, you can take a look in your sketchbook and speak to MEWO a few times until she's said everything there is to say. Well, there's no sense in waiting around, go ahead and leave the room at your own pace. If you really, really get stuck:
