Breeding has been a feature available in multiple mainline Pokemon games throughout the years, but Pokemon Legends: Arceus decided to take a slightly different approach to how players obtain new Pokemon. Here’s the likely reason as to why Arceus doesn’t feature breeding, and what mechanics the developers replaced it with.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus Ditches Popular Breeding Mechanic

Although an official reason as to why there’s no breeding in Pokemon Legends: Arceus hasn’t been revealed by the developers. Emily Morrow from Dot Esports theorises that one of the reasons could be due to the in-game lore.

Unlike many other mainline Pokemon games, Pokemon Legends: Arceus is set deep in the past in a region known as Hisui. Due to this, it’s possible that breeding between Pokemon isn’t available as people simply haven’t learnt about the possibility just yet.

Fans are certainly disappointed at the disappearance of the feature, but there are some other new mechanics for players to learn in place of breeding. Pokemon Legends: Arceus allows players to sneak up behind Pokemon to catch them, along with new crafting mechanics, dodging, and more.
