High rail vs. scale wheels?
Howdy from Texas. I'm a newbie coming back into this hobby. My parents bought me a couple of Marx train sets back when I was a kid (mid to late '60s) but I always wanted a real Lionel set. Well, I've finally picked up several sets and a few Bachman sets also. I bought a house across the street from the one I live in and plan on doing some layouts in the bedrooms.
Anyway, to my question - I tried using the search function first but got so many non-related threads returned, I couldn't find my answer to what I'm sure is a very basic question. I see in some of the advertisements for locomotives there is an option for "high rail wheels" or "scale wheels". I know there are different profiles of track; is this what they are referring to? Would there be a problem with the wheels hitting the ties if you tried to run "high rail wheels" on a lower profile track?
Sorry for such a simple question.
Thanks,
Jay
