Historic 150th Open at St. Andrews- 2022 Open Championship. Golf fans will get hitched to televisions for the 150th Open Championship. It will take place at St. Andrews, Old Course in Scotland. Open Championship is the oldest golf tournament in the world.

It’s popular with the name “British Open.” It’s one of the most revered on the pro circuit. This tournament is the fourth and final key tournament of the year. By default, the interest of the fans will be at its peak.

Collin Morikawa 

The reigning Open champion is Collin Morikawa. He is from the United States. 

 Morikawa shot a -15 at Royal St. George’s in 2021. The event got canceled in 2020 for the pandemic. Still, six nations are represented from the eight previous winners of the Claret Jug. It includes Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland. He is the odds-on favorite to win the event this year at $10.00.

Rory McIlroy

McIlroy bagged the Open in 2014. That year it was at Royal Liverpool in England. He remained deprived to defend his championship in 2015. It was due to a soccer injury.  

He is the No. 2 OWGR golfer. McIlroy, ended up in the top 10 for the first three key tournaments this year. 

2022 Open Championship Course: Some facts about the Old Course at St. Andrews

The Old Course is at St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland. It is the oldest golf course on earth. 

It will be the 30th time for TOC at St. Andrews. The course remained the most common host Open Championship, since 1860.

The course covers 7,305 yards with plenty of other features. It includes 112 bunkers and countless hills and hollows. The course holds a history of sabotaging some of the renowned golfers’ scorecards.

  • The “Swilcan Burn,” flows through the first and 18th holes of the TOC.  
  • The “Sutherland Bunker” binds over strikers through the fourth and 15th. 
  • The “Strath Bunker” and “Road Bunker” are covered with green surroundings on the 11th and 17th. 
  • “The Beardies” are like minefields on the 14th
  • It also houses 6,500-square foot, and 10-feet deep “Hell Bunker.”
  • “Miss Grainger’s Bosoms” mounds on the 15th, 
  • “Principal’s Nose” is a smack-dab triple-bunker. It falls in the middle of the 16th fairway.

Weather forecast for 2022 Open Championship

The Open Championship started last Thursday. The chances of rainfall are there. Heavy winds are expected during Round 1. Thursday & Friday will be better with comfortable temperatures.

 The temperature will be low-to-mid 70s Fahrenheit. Friday will stay breezy during the morning but clearer during the afternoon.

The Saturday weather may play a twist in the later stages of this tournament. Fife will witness heavy wind at a speed of 30 miles per hour. The cloud may turn to rain, sometimes during the afternoon. Sunday will see gusts which will be less strong. The final round will offer sunny, and pleasant weather for this tournament.

He is No. 2 golfer, with the four-time major champion. He earned seven top-10 finishes.

 Rory earned over US$7.3 million as prize money. He ended second in the Masters. Tied for the fifth position at the U.S. Open. He was eighth at the PGA Championship.

McIlroy’s is a deserving favoUrite to win the event. He didn’t participate since 2010. His last appearance witnessed the tie for third and-historic 63 in the opening round.

Rory was unable to participate in TOC 2015. It was due to an injury.  

Justin Thomas @ $21.00

Thomas deserves this for his nine top-10 finishes. It includes a win at the PGA Championship in May. 

His shots were 63, and 64 in the final rounds. He finished third in the RBC Canadian Open. 

Thomas was first on tour in birdie. His average was 4.7 per round. He was fourth in total average scoring overall.

Dustin Johnson @ $41.00

The golf star will certainly give shockwaves to the PGA Tour. The reason is that he has a chance to win. We may see Johnson win. 

He drove to the opening-round 65 when this event, was held last time.
