Jacob Elordi Views His Casting in Priscilla as Fan Service Rather Than Merit-Based

In a GQ profile featuring Gen Z heartthrob Jacob Elordi’s transition from television to full-fledged movie stardom, it also touched upon the Sofia Coppola film Priscilla. That is where, Elordi discussed how the selection process for his role led him to believe that being cast as Elvis Presley was more about catering to fan service than his own merit.

Sofia Coppola revealed that she initially found Jacob Elordi perfect for the role when they first met. In a typical Jacob Elordi fashion, the actor turned quite a few heads on his entry to the restaurant where Coppola was waiting for him, much like Elvis Presley in his heyday. This particular moment was what truly convinced Coppola to cast him in the role.

As Sofia Cappola recounted,

“there were some girls there and you could just feel them all turn to him. I mean, he’s striking—so tall. But he just has a charisma, he has an effect on women that I imagine was similar to Elvis.”

Elordi also took a moment to thank the girls stating,

“I think those girls might’ve done me a great service,”

Th actor also previously stated to Men’s Health while discussing The Kissing Booth,

“At the time, I was super young and got thrown into a world where everyone wanted to talk about my body … it really f—— bothered me,–I don’t identify with that whatsoever. I was trying to prove myself and be known as an actor. It was so much working out and I hated every second of it.”

While it’s true that the actor needed to resemble the iconic figure to a certain extent to embody the spirit of the character, he forever had to go the extra mile to showcase his talents and prove himself beyond just his appearance in order to truly convince the public.
