CyberConnect2 revealed a remaster for its JoJo fighting game, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle R, at the March 2022 State of Play, here’s what you need to know about the changes coming to JoJo ASB R.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure All-Star Battle was first released on August 29, 2013, on PlayStation 3. The game, developed by CyberConnect2 (Naruto Narutimate Ninja Storm, Demon Slayer Hinokami Chronicles), is now coming back in early Fall 2022 on Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam. However, several changes will be made to the fighting game. We translated below all the changes revealed so far via the Japanese press release.
All the changes coming to JoJo ASB R revealed so far
New playable characters
The original JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure ASB fighting game had 40 playable characters from Part 1 to 8. But the Remaster will bring up that count to 50, with several new characters. The characters will be revealed at a later date.
3D models changed to reflect the new David Production anime
All the characters in the game from Part 1 to 6, as in the JoJo Parts which already got a new anime, will have their 3D models changed to reflect the new anime.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure ASB R changes voice actor cast to reflect new anime
With the release of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure ASB R, all the characters from Part 1 to 6 will have their seiyuu (Japanese voice actors) changed to fall in line with the new anime. Back when JoJo ASB was first released in 2013, the new JoJo TV anime series by David Production had just started in 2012. So all of the characters beyond Part 2 had different seiyuu than now.
Most notably, the first JoJo protagonist heard on the reveal trailer, Jolyne Cujoh, is now voiced by Fairouz Ai instead of Miyuki Sawashiro.
New auto combo system
The Remaster will add an “easy beat system” for beginners that triggers auto combos by mashing the same button.
New All-Star Battle mode added, Story and Campaign modes removed
A new All-Star Battle mode has been added to single-player, replacing the story mode and the campaign mode of the original PS3 JoJo ASB fighting game. This is actually a good thing.
The press release stressed that All-Star Battle won’t use a Stamina system. Referencing how many fans disliked the original JJBA ASB game’s campaign mode, which had a system comparable to Stamina in Sociage (Japanese mobile games). Stamina systems limit how much you can play pr day.
All-Star Battle mode will include “normal battles” reproducing some of the iconic scenes of the original manga by Hirohiko Araki, and “extra battles” which is like a mission mode. You’ll unlock bonus costumes for the characters by clearing these. All the characters in All-Star Battle will have brand-new lines of dialogues with each other during battles and on the victory screen.
