Katy Perry Fans Are Not Happy She Promoted Her Dad's 'Nonpartisan' T-shirt Line

But fans see this latest post as more than just a daughter reaching out to her dad. Amid the many comments on Instagram asking Perry to delete the video, jewelry designer Markus Molinary wrote a statement summarizing why Perry's message of love and tolerance is inconsistent with a video about making nice with the Republican party.

“I’m sorry, I LOVE YOU but this is a HUGE NO for me! It’s not a political issue. It’s ‘straight’ up a human rights issue,” Molinary wrote. “The Trump Administration’s decision to reverse the Obama-era rule that encompasses gender identity in the sex definition of the Affordable Care Act is an act of discrimination and purposeful inequality. This is about human respect, and right now we need to take a good look at ourselves and ask who we are becoming if we are justifying or advocating against the barest rights imaginable…It’s NOT right to just cover it up with a T-Shirt.”

Though she hasn't responded to the backlash, Perry did post another video to Instagram, showing herself barefoot outside, soaking up the sunshine, and whispering “grounded” (possibly “grounding”) to the camera.

Perry isn't the only pop star who's had to reckon with ties to conservative dads in recent weeks. While Lady Gaga was hitting the campaign trail in support of the Biden-Harris ticket, her father, Joe Germanotta, reportedly tweeted in support of President Trump. Gaga's fans pointed out that Trump had made disparaging remarks about the singer, and that Germanotta's support of him was perhaps unkind to his family, given those comments.
