INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A Southwest Airlines pilot was being checked after lightning struck near the plane he was about to fly at the Indianapolis International Airport. The pilot was outside the airplane and touching the plane when the lightning struck nearby.
Indianapolis airport spokesperson Stephanie McFarland says the lightning strike did not directly hit the plane or the pilot but was close enough that the pilot felt the discharge.
Video posted to the WTHR.com Facebook page shows the pilot and co-pilot leaving the plane and walking to an ambulance to be transported to be checked out.
