Missing Again? The *Real* Reason Michael Strahan Has Been Mysteriously Absent From Good Morning America

Michael Strahan has missed his third taping in a row of Good Morning America, causing concern from viewers. Where is Michael Strahan on Good Morning America? Here’s everything we know about the co-host’s absence and when he’s expected to return.

Where is Michael Strahan on Good Morning America?

Michael Strahan has been mysteriously absent from his usual post on Good Morning America this week. The former professional football player missed the June 24, 25 and 26 tapings of the morning talk show, which he typically hosts with Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos.

Roberts has also been MIA, leaving Stephanopoulos to man the desk. During the June 26 broadcast, all three hosts were missing, including Stephanopoulos, and they were replaced by Rebecca Jarvis, Gio Benitez and Linsey Davis. This massive shakeup has caused viewers to be concerned about their favorite GMA hosts’ whereabouts.

Strahan, for his part, has not given any indication as to where he is and why he took time off, but fans suspect that his absence is likely a family matter. In January 2024, Strahan revealed that his daughter Isabella had been diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a common malignant brain tumor. The 20-year-old has been documenting her cancer journey on her YouTube channel ever since, and a few weeks ago, she marked a major milestone: her last chemotherapy treatment.

Isabella celebrated the feat on Instagram, writing alongside a series of hospital photos: “After the wildest 8 months, I finally got to ring the bell. Grateful for my journey 🩶 Last treatment vlog is on YouTube.”

Her proud dad also marked the occasion, sharing a touching tribute to his daughter. “@isabellastrahan ou are a SUPERWOMAN! Ringing that bell finishing chemo and on your way! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 You continue to fight with a smile on your face, strength, and determination. I am one proud Dad! Love you, Bella ❤️❤️,” he captioned a video of Isabella ringing the bell.

Neither Strahan nor Isabella have been very active on social media this week, which leads fans to worry that Isabella has had a health setback. However, since his co-hosts are also taking time off, he’s most likely soaking up some quality time with his family, which also includes longtime girlfriend Kayla Quick, Isabella’s twin sister Sophia and his two older children, Tanita and Michael Jr.

Strahan was missing from GMA at the start of June as well, with many viewers speculating that his absence was related to his daughter’s significant health update.

Last week, Roberts reported live from Portugal, where she filmed segments for GMA about the increasing number of Americans relocating and traveling to the country. As evidenced by her social media, her wife, Amber Laign, traveled with her. While Roberts has not addressed her absence this week, it’s possible that she and Laign extended their stay and are enjoying some vacation time.

Stephanopoulos’ June 26 absence was not addressed on the show either, but many assume it has to do with the recent death of his father, Rev. Dr. Robert G, who passed away on June 19.

It’s unclear when all three hosts will be back, but Jarvis, Benitez and Davis have been doing a great job without them. During the June 26 broadcast, the fill-in hosts announced an exciting lineup for GMA‘s 2024 Summer Concert Series. Carrie Underwood, Kane Brown, Green Day, Megan Moroney, G-Eazy and Old Dominion are among the chart-topping artists who will be performing live in Central Park all summer.
