NC woman captures funnel on video – WSOC TV

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A Burlington, North Carolina woman couldn’t contain her excitement Thursday while capturing what appeared to be a tornado on her cellphone, according to WFMY.

Maryann Tucker and her husband had just picked up hot dogs and were driving along South Church Street as the skies darkened above them. She was in the middle of broadcasting a Facebook Live when she recorded the funnel on video.

“I see the wind,” Tucker can be heard saying, before she screams, “Holy cow! There’s a tornado, y’all.”

Alamance County was under a tornado warning at the time.

The National Weather Service was in the Triad Friday to survey the damage, and determined a tornado did touch down in several areas.

According to officials, an EF-1 tornado with 100 mph winds was on the ground for approximately 5 minutes near Whitsett, which is near the Guilford and Alamance County line. Officials also determined an EF-0 tornado with 85 mph winds was on the ground for approximately 5 minutes near High Point.

Preliminary NWS Tornado damage survey revealed a tornadic storm near Whitsett, NC near the Guilford and Alamance county line. The tornado was on the ground intermittently for approximately 5 min. Additional investigation will take place through the day today into tomorrow. #NCwx
