Ever since quarantine, the craze for anime spiked worldwide. Anime has been quite underrated despite its unique storylines, concepts, and marvelous animation. Anime has become relatively mainstream among people. Series like Death Note, Naruto, One Piece, and Attack On Titan are some of the few that have become popular in the past few years.
Even Western shows like Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad have some sort of influence over anime. One of the most popular and probably the best new-generation shōnen anime, Attack on Titan, has a few elements inspired by the previously mentioned shows.
What part of Attack on Titan was inspired by Breaking Bad?
The Mangaka of Attack of Titan, Hajime Isayama, made his first appearance in North America at the 2022’s Anime NYC convention. He apologized to the audience regarding the massively controversial ending for the series. Afterward, he talked about taking inspiration from some popular series for creating conflicted members of Marley known as Gabi and Falco. Gabi’s idea was drawn from Arya from Game of Thrones, and Falco was inspired by Jesse from Breaking Bad.

The irony with Gabi’s character was that she was inspired by Arya Stark, played by Maisie Williams. Fans were instead adoring Maisie Williams. Falco was designed for the popular American drama series Breaking Bad. Aaron Paul played the role of Jessy Pinkman. Attack on Titan graced the viewers in 2013, while Game of Thrones started airing two years prior, in 2011, and ended in 2019. Breaking Bad started airing even earlier, back in 2008, and reached its conclusion in 2013.

What did Hajime Isayama say about the conclusion of Attack on Titan?
Similar to the success of Attack on Titan manga, the anime of the series performed great and garnered a lot of positive light from both critics and fans. It won several prestigious awards like Crunchyroll Anime Awards, Attack on Titan: The Final Season – Part 1 won Anime of the Year, Best Antagonist, and Best Opening Sequence.
The Mangaka of Attack on Titan, Hajime Isayama, recently expressed his opinions and emotions regarding the controversial conclusion of the series. He spoke at a panel in Anime NYC and explained his doubts regarding how he came up with the ending. “I still struggle on this point,” Isayama stated. “I’m very sorry about that.”
In North America, Attack on Titan Manga is distributed by Kodansha USA. The anime features three seasons animated by WIT Studios and the final one adapted by MAPPA.
