Monday marked one-month since Hurricane Charley pounded Charlotte County with 145-mile per hour winds.One month later, the county's emergency management director says power has been restored to all who can receive it, and essential services in the county have been restored.Wayne Sallade, Charlotte County Emergency Management Director: We made great progress the first two weeks after Charley.The Category Four storm left an estimated 2.7-million cubic yards of debris in its wake. With subsequent threats from Frances and now Ivan, Sallade says only 25-percent of that has been picked up.Sallade:The last two weeks we’ve been stagnated a bit.Meantime, residents are only just beginning the rebuilding process.Laura Ross: It’s a lot of stress that you have to learn to live with. It’s just a different way of living.Sallade says about 14,000 structures were destroyed by the storm. All the debris might not be cleaned up until Thanksgiving.
