PS4 Exclusive Spider-Man Uses Insomniac Engine; Naughty Dog Not Involved With Engine Development and More

The newly announced Spider-Man by Insomniac Games certainly made ripples, causing excitement and speculation both due to the license involved and just how good it looked in the teaser we saw at E3. More information is trickling down via Insomniac’s own Twitter account.

First of all, we learn that the game runs on the studio’s proprietary Insomniac Engine.

We also hear that the title will feature a “more experienced Spider-Man,” and won’t be an origin story.

@thismmafan keep in mind this is NOT an origin story, it’s very much a more experienced Spider-Man

A small misunderstanding caused some to ask whether Naughty Dog is involved with the development of the engine or, but it was quickly cleared. The house of Uncharted isn’t pitching in with its technology know-how.

@vampirepietro no

@vampirepietro this was someone asking about the PS2 days, not current. #contextmatters

For clarity, this is what was mentioned, talking about the PS2 generation.

@CyberneticPunk6 no, though we gave Naughty Dog some code and they gave us some code to improve each of our own engines

We also heard how the studio can work on Spider-man and also launch so many smaller projects at the same time:

@GamingMunky small projects only take up a small amount of people here. And we have a lot of Insomniacs now!

Insomniac also issued a further response to fans asking for the game to appear on other platforms.

@NitroHype @Gamer1Mack We can’t change that. Spider-Man is a Marvel property. We don’t control that. Sony doesn’t do multiplat games.

Last, but not least, if you were wondering, a Sunset Overdrive sequel is not in the works at the moment:

@garydecalmer not currently working on @SunsetOverdrive sequel, but it would be awesome
