As McDermott’s loved ones continue to pay respect to him, word of the courageous rescue has spread abroad. He has worked as a lifeguard for more than 30 years, and throughout that time, he has saved countless lives at different sites and beaches. He was aged between 6-0-65 years but his exact date of birth is not known.

Terry Mcdermott’s Viral Video Explained
The viral video shows a young child swimming in the sea while being surrounded by other swimmers on Sydney’s Bondi beach. After some time, McDermott realised she was having trouble staying afloat and was constantly being carried away by the currents. The child was fading from vision due to the overwhelming waves.
The lifeguard, who has over 30 years of expertise, sprung into action with his rescue board. He was recorded stating at the time,
“You’ve got to strip down, get the board, get in the water, hope you don’t get slowed by waves coming in, and sprint to the patient.”
He luckily arrived in time to save the girl from drowning, and he helped her up onto the board.

Following their return to land, McDermott sought out the girl’s mother and told her that her daughter had nearly drowned. He said,
She was definitely at a point, at a serious point by the time I made contact with her.

He stated, describing the emotions a father experiences,
Especially with [rescues of] young kids like that, because I lost my son, I know that feeling.
Speaking from his own experience, he said,
My boy was trapped in the birth canal and had complications which cut the oxygen off for ten minutes, but the result was a week later he died.

Whenever I do a rescue of a young child, that comes to the surface. If she [the mother] lost that beautiful little girl, she’d know what I’m talking about.
