Lewis Hamilton took to social media to announce his new helmet for the 2022 season. He shared two stories on Instagram, informing his 27.2 million Instagram followers of him revealing his new helmet design a day later.
The Mercedes driver then share his new yellow helmet on Instagram and Twitter, with the following message: For this year’s helmet I wanted to show love to my beginnings. As much as I love purple and black, yellow is my history. I’m going into this season with the same dedication, drive, and passion I had way back in my karting days.

Lewis Hamilton started his karting career back in 1993, a time when a lot of the current F1 drivers weren’t even born. And now, in 2022, Lewis is entering the 16th season of his F1 career, with as much dedication and zest as he started his racing career with.
Lewis Hamilton’s banter with Lando Norris
One of the first reactions to Lewis’ helmet was that of Lando Norris’. The McLaren driver shared Lewis’ helmet post on his story captioned: “Thanks for the helmet tribute to me,” in a light way, suggested by the use of emojis. The tribute Lando refers is to the color used by teaml4ndo. The color is quite similar to that of the team and Lando’s helmet itself. The team covers the McLaren driver throughout the year, sharing content, insights, and other things related to Lando Norris.
Later, Lewis Hamilton reshared Lando’s story, saying, “Well actually I was using yellow before you were born so in retrospect, yours is a tribute to me. respect,” taking a slight dig at Lando. The banter seems to have ended here, but it’s good to see more of this light side of the drivers as well.
As the season will proceed, rivalries will get intense, and we might not see much of this banter amongst a few pairs except in the press conferences. However, we can’t wait for more of the action both on and off-field in the 2022 season.
