The KFP franchise consists mainly of four CGI-animated films: Kung Fu Panda (2008), Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011), Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016) and the upcoming Kung Fu Panda 4 (2024).

While all three movies in the Kung Fu Panda trilogy are great, but the second one still stands out as the best (whether it’s in terms of its quality, originality, or heartfelt storytelling).

In Kung Fu Panda 2, the creators didn’t shy away from tackling some darker themes. Po’s backstory gets pretty heavy here, which makes him a more interesting character. The movie dives deep into Po’s past struggles, helping us connect with him better.

There’s this scene where Po remembers his mom in a flashback, and it looks so real with the switch from 2D to 3D. It’s a touching moment where Po deals with his identity, loss, and the love from his friends. It’s the attention to such details that makes this film standout!

Fans were surprised by the announcement of the fourth Kung Fu Panda movie because they didn’t see it coming. They got a sneak peek during the 2024 Super Bowl with a teaser trailer showing off new characters and funny scenes. The official synopsis on IMDb reads:

“After Po is tapped to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace, he needs to find and train a new Dragon Warrior, while a wicked sorceress plans to re-summon all the master villains whom Po has vanquished to the spirit realm.”

Jack Black is back to voice Po, just like in the previous movies. Awkwafina joins the cast as Zhen, a sneaky thief who Po trains to be the new Dragon Warrior. Also, Oscar winners Viola Davis and Ke Huy Quan are joining the team as Chameleon and Han, respectively.

In Kung Fu Panda 4, Davis’ character, Chameleon, takes on the role of the new villain. She’s a shapeshifter who uses her abilities to mimic the traits of Po’s previous enemies.
