Train to Busan is Getting a US Remake, and Fans Aren't Happy

Earlier this year, a report from Deadline stated that New Line Cinema would release a remake of the South Korean zombie thriller, Train to Busan. As expected, fans familiar with the original movie aren’t happy with the news.

Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, the original Train to Busan film was premiered at the Cannes Film festival in 2016. The movie revolves around Seok-woo and his daughter Su-an. They get stuck in a high-speed train from Seoul to Busan in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.

Train to Busan broke all records in South Korea, and it also became an international hit. Several critics appreciated the movie for its fast-paced story and well-written characters. Some even went on to say that it’s the best zombie movie ever made.

Train to Busan Remake

According to Deadline, Timo Tjahjanto is already in talks to direct the remake. The Indonesian filmmaker is well-known for directing The Night Comes For Us, Headshot, May The Devil Take You, and its sequel, May The Devil Take You Too.

New Line Cinema, which is a part of WarnerMedia, will release the film; however, there isn’t any official release date.

James Wan, Michael Clear, Nicolas Atlan, and Terry Kalagian are coming together to produce the remake. Whereas Gary Dauberman, the American screenwriter known for writing several Conjuring Universe movies, will work on Train to Busan Remake’s screenplay.

Of course, everyone working on the remake is great; however, when the original movie in itself is a masterpiece, fans wonder why there is a need for a remake. So, it’s no surprise that several fans went to Twitter to express their disappointment following the announcement.

Everytime I see mention of the TRAIN TO BUSAN remake I shake my head (it's my fave movie of all time) because there's nuance to its very specific social commentary, as well as Westerners needing ti accept reading CC, & American studios feeling the need to top international films.

Of course, several fans are unhappy with the Train to Busan Remake’s announcement. But some fans are genuinely excited about it, especially after seeing some talented people working on the project.

People getting upset about not very recent TRAIN TO BUSAN remake news must not be familiar with Timo Tjahjanto's work. I get unreasonably excited anytime I see his name attached to a movie. Don't care what is it, give it to me now please.

If you don't know the very obvious reason why the TRAIN TO BUSAN remake will be a must-see then it's time to stop lecturing about "read subtitles" and your superior knowledge of the cinema of the world and all that shit.
