4. At a pharmacy. A friend was refilling a prescription when the pharmacist hit on him. Um, there are privacy laws about that, right?
5. While teaching a college class. A friend of mine was a TA for a discussion section, and during the last week of class one of her students asked for her number. He said, "I finally worked up the courage to ask and I feel it in my heart." They decided to meet in the middle—she told him he could add her on Facebook.
6. In the self-help section of Barnes and Noble. This also happened to me. I was going through a breakup and browsing books (on…breakups) when I was approached by a guy.
__7. While shopping at Staples.__My friend was searching for envelopes in the paper isle when a guy asked if she was an actress "because she looked familiar" (a common pick-up line in L.A.). He was so intense that she left the store and ordered the envelopes online.
8. At a gay bar. My (female, straight) cousin was at well-known gay bar The Abbey in L.A. and was actually asked out by multiple straight men. Is there nowhere safe to go when a girl just wants to get her dance on?
__9. In yoga class.__Declining a date while doing Downward Dog is pretty advanced if you ask me. A friend of mine was going to the same 7 A.M. Vinyasa class each week, and eventually one of the guys asked her out. She accepted the date and they went out a few times. Of course, when it didn't work out, one of them had to find a different yoga class to avoid the awkward run-ins.
__10. In a restaurant bathroom.__My male, straight friend was chatting with a man and his wife in a bar. He went to the bathroom the man followed—and propositioned him! Needless to say he wasn't into threesomes.
__11. While eight months pregnant.__My pregnant friend was in Las Vegas with her husband for a wedding. The night before the wedding they went to a club for the bachelorette party. Interestingly enough, her belly (and wedding ring) didn't stop guys from asking for her number.
12. In a parking lot. A friend of mine was walking through a parking lot with her earphones in. She felt like someone was following her, so she sped up. Then a guy got in front of her and said he had to stop her and ask if she'd go out with him. Not the smartest move. Fortunately, he ended up being a nice guy (and didn't get spritzed with pepper spray).
Where is the most awkward place you've been hit on?
