Swiss star Stan Wawrinka has been one of the most underrated tennis stars among his contemporaries. The three-time Grand Slams champion and former World No. 3 possessed one of the most powerful backhands ever but throughout his career, he remained under the shadow of the ‘Big 3’ and could not get the attention that he deserved.
In all three Grand Slams triumphs, Wawrinka defeated the World No. 1 in the final. His other career highlights include the doubles gold in the 2008 Beijing Olympics pairing with Roger Federer and victory at the 2014 Davis Cup. Wawrinka achieved the nickname “Stanimal” for both his play style and ability to win in big matches, particularly between the 2014 Australian Open and the 2016 US Open.
Wawrinka married his Swiss TV presenter and former model wife in December 2009 and had a daughter Alexia three months later. Wawrinka’s relationship with his wife was not smooth and after several ups and downs, it ended in 2015, in quite an ugly manner. Later Warinka started dating Croatian tennis player Donna Vekic.

The romance between Stan Wawrinka and Donna Vekic did not last very long
The couple started dating soon after Wawrinka split with his wife Ilham Vuilloud. Although there were rumors though unconfirmed that the couple was in a relationship since 2014. Their relationship was a subject of much fanfare in the tennis world but it too did not mean to last long and they parted ways in May 2019.
About their split, neither Wawrinka nor Vekic made any official statement. In 2019 soon after the split with Vekic, Wawrinka was asked about the same but he did not provide any specific answer. “I won three Grand Slam titles and more tournaments than I hoped to. So, during my career, I had to do more than just care about my private life,” Wawrinka said then.
Nick Kyrgios made a controversial comment about Vekic involving fellow Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis. During his match against Wawrinka at the 2015 Rogers Cup, Krgios was heard making an indecent remark about the Croatian WTA star sleeping with Kokkinakis.
