Dotemu, the studio behind Streets of Rage 4, is now determined to bring a sequel to another retro title after decades, and it’s Windjammers!
Originally launched back in 1994 for Arcades, Neo Geo AES, and Neo Geo CD, Windjammers is a sports 1v1 game where two players stand at two sides of a cage-like court and throw a disk at each other. The player who couldn’t throw back the opponent’s disk loses points.

This simple concept turned into a highly popular competitive sports game back in the time on Arcades and Neo Geo platforms. The game then ported to the current-gen consoles and PCs, but more importantly, it is now getting a sequel after 28 years.
Windjammers 2 Release Date and Time
Windjammers 2 will be launched on January 20 at 6 am PT/9 am ET/2 pm UTC/3 pm CET. If you are an Xbox Game Pass subscriber either on PC or consoles, you can play it for free right after launch.
Aside from a single-player mode, Windjammers 2 will support both online and local multiplayer options. The game will be launched with 10 playable characters at launch, including returning characters from the original version and some brand new personalities.
After Windjammers 2, Dotemu will strictly focus on delivering the Metal Slug Tactics, a top-down tactical version of the legendary 2D shoot’em up franchise, which has been scheduled for a 2022 release.
Windjammers 2 will be available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Stadia, and PC. The game will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S through the backward compatibility feature.
